This one is for my brother, who, according to yesterday's comments, would like to see more stamen. I personally would like to hear More Cowbell, but that's just me...
The first of the lillies have finally come into bloom. These were ones I bought on impulse last year, because I was so taken with the color. They have not disappointed in their reprise.
You couldn't really have thought that I was done with my airshow pix... It was kind of like at the end of Season 3 ( I think) of Punk'd when Ashton said that that was the end of Punk'd, but everyone secretly knew he was gonna do more. Yup...that's me... just like Ashton Kutcher... sans trucker hat and Demi Moore.
This is a great example of what happens when the late day sun breaks out of the clouds (a common occurence here in Providence) and saturates anything colorful with warm angular light.
Jane and I just got back from a sunny, warm scooter ride. We stopped at 7 Stars Bakery for breakfast and had these delightful baked goods. If you ever come through Providence, you really can't go wrong with 7 Stars. Here, we have: Lemon Cake, Raspberry Bar, and Walnut Coffe-cake muffin. All were very nice.
These were snapdragons we got at our local CSA plant sale. The colors are much more mottled and vibrant than most snapdragons I've seen. The crop doesn't feel quite right, yet, so if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
Finally, images of the real reason I went to the airshow. I like this image alot as a solo image, but it also serves as a nice gateway to the gallery page!
While the rest of the airshow was very carefully choreographed, the skydivers just seemed to haphazardly jump out of the plane (a.k.a. the sherpa) and sail to the ground. I'm not totally satisfied with this one yet, but I like where it's headed.
I mentioned yesterday, on my main potd, that I was going to the airshow. The main reason I go is to see Les Shockley's Shockwave Truck, which is just about the coolest thing ever (pictures to follow tomorrow, probably). As I scrolled through the digital mountain of pictures I took yesterday, this one struck me as the most iconic image of what it is to be at an airshow. This is an F-15 streaking past the crowd. It was so loud and fast and appealing on some kind of carnal level.
It had been such a nice couple of days with the dogs, I thought Guinness deserved his own post. (He's my favorite, if you couldn't already tell) And.....ermmm..... no... I didn't have to hold a treat right next to the lens to get this pic, he always sits so pretty!
A great roadside ice cream shop by my mom's house. Just about the perfect thing for a hot summer evening... Actually, it wasn't that hot tonight, but it still worked out to be just about the perfect thing. Ice cream is funny that way.
Diets be damned! This was a 2 scoop sunday with 1 scoop Coconut Almond Joy Ice Cream and 1 scoop Cookies 'n Cream, with hot fudge to round out the goodness.
Summer is finally back and the river is warm enough for knee boarding and wake boarding again. Yesterday was about as perfect a day as you could hope for, humid and overbearingly hot, so it was nice to have the option to jump over the side on a whim.
(that's me) photo credit goes to Jane who had great success shooting pix from a moving boat on choppy water.
In its final form, I think this one will get a nice square crop. But I kind of want to look at it like this for a couple days to make sure I agree with myself.
This is one that I would really welcome comments on. I've been looking at it a bit too long now and I can't tell if I'm heading in a good direction or trying to make something out of nothing. Thanks.
It was a great couple of days in NY, walking the dogs hunting the woods for jack-in-the-pulpits and the ever elusive lady slipper. The bright overcast light was beautiful in the dense woods, but made for some difficult images. Cross your fingers and maybe you'll see some in the next day or two!
