If I didn't know you'd recently been somewhere that revolved around the burning of something significant, I would have completely thought this was a shot from some worn-torn country. I assume it was just a coincidence you posted this today and that it doesn't have anything to do with today's events (in Amman)?
This was creepy when we were there -- especially the people digging through the ashes as if they were going to find *something* and then clinging desperately to the twisted bit of metal they decided was meaningful -- but it's even creepier when you're not there! Makes you realize the power of narrative -- what the picture says by itself vs. the stories those ash-diggers tell themselves vs. the 'like looking at a train wreck' fascination...
